Arbordel Farm

Living the adventure...

Farm Products

At Arbordel Farm we bake homemade bread year round and it is our most popular item.  The various traditional recipes are filled out by our own signature recipes that cannot be found elsewhere.  The bread is hand made and baked fresh everyday.  There are no mixes, no frozen or imported doughs.  There are no preservatives and we use all natural ingredients.  Grandma handles the bread sales, seated in her chair in front of the shop, waving at the folks who drive by.  Some of the bread we bake must be ordered in advance due to high demand (to make sure we still have some when folks get here) so call ahead.

Our produce has taken a major blow with the drought that has plagued South Texas throughout the year.  We have recently had some rain and we are now planting for the fall.  The cucumbers are already coming up.  A complete list of produce grown over the course of the next 3 months will be updated regularly on this page as it becomes available.

PRODUCE:
We have yellow squash available, first come first served, for .50 cents each.  Squash will be available until the first frost kills it.

We also raise goats, pigs, chickens, and ducks for food and for sale.
By avoiding specialization in agriculture, we are able to maintain some cash flow year round.  Traditional farms of the past never specialized in only one crop or one animal in production.  Ask any old timer and he will say, "You should never put all of your eggs in one basket."

The Goats

We raise a large type goat for meat and dairy production.  It is our hope that through selective breeding, we will be successful in producing an all purpose goat that will give high quality milk in good quantities and will have a 4:1 meat to bone ratio, good resistance to disease, and a docile temperament, making it far more economical to raise than other breeds of commercial goats.  We are already seeing some success with our efforts.  Kids are available year round.  Breeding stock will be available in 2010.

Black Jack, a billy goat.

We also raise Tennessee Stifflegs (Fainting Goats) in both medium size and miniature.  These are very rare goats.  The minis make the best pets and are great for keeping a lawn smooth as they do not destroy trees like other goat breeds are known to do.

The Pigs

Our pigs are AAA rated.  Our breeding stock was purchased from Texas A&M University and have no feral hogs in their bloodlines.  Young pigs should be available in 5 to 6 months and older pigs may be purchased at any time.  Call or e-mail to check availability.  There is always strong demand for pigs.

Wilbur the pig.

The Poultry

Chickens are available year round.  The fancy feathered chickens are raised for setting and laying.  They are also an attractive addition to the barnyard.  The meat birds are mostly white broilers with some crosses that lay well but carry enough meat to make them worth frying.

We have large white Pekin Ducks that are suitable for meat and for hanging out in the pond.  We have pond ready Black Swedes currently available for $15 each.  All animals are sold live and in good health.  For livestock information, e-mail angelsprite@arbordel.webatu.com

We offer natural duck feathers in white, black, black and white, silver, brown, and green.  We have a limited number of guinnae feathers as well.  Chicken feathers in a wild variety of shapes and colors are usually available.
